Yakama Nation weighs ban on new dairy feedlots

The Yakama Nation of Washington will study the impact on feedlots and dairies before deciding whether to ban new development on the reservation.

At a general council meeting last week, tribal members voted in favor of a moratorium on new or expanded dairy operations. They cited health and environmental concerns.

Some tribal members have sued the operators of a 12,000-cow feedlot for $5 million in damages.
