IHS hospital on Navajo Nation cuts emergency care

The Indian Health Service has cut back emergency services at a hospital on the Navajo Nation.

The Crownpoint Health Care Facility in Crownpoint, New Mexico, will no longer offer emergency services during nights or weekends. A spokesperson said more laboratory staff needs to be hired.

Until the staffing shortage is resolved, patients are being told to go to IHS facilities in Gallup, more than an hour away, or to Shiprock, more than 2 hours away.
