Mole Lake Band dedicates statue of Chief Ackley
The Sokaogon Chippewa Community of Wisconsin, also known as the Mole Lake Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, dedicated a 5,000-pound statue of renowned Chief Williard Leroy Ackley.

Ackley starting leading the tribe in the late 1920s. He helped establish the reservation in 1934, when he selected a prime site that would allow the tribe to harvest wild rice and continue its fishing traditions. He is credited with bringing electricity and running water to the reservation.

The statue will be placed at Ackley's old home, which the tribe is restoring and turning into a museum.
