Citizen Potawatomi Nation gets water service deal
The Citizen Potawatomi Nation of Oklahoma won approval to provide water service in Pottawatomie County over the objections of some local governments.

The tribe is the only one in Oklahoma with its own water district. The tribe provides service to its businesses and members and to non-tribal members.

The county approved a $5 million plan to extend the tribe's service to as many as 440 homes and schools in the Dale area. The tribe plans to serve its casino and future development as well.

Some local governments wanted to serve the area but Chairman John Barett said the tribe is the only one who can provide service immediately.
