Seneca-Cayuga Tribe waiting on BIA amid dispute
Who's in charge of the Seneca-Cayuga Tribe of Oklahoma? Rivals are claiming to be in control as they wait for a response from the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

Chief Paul Spicer says he remains the legitimate leader despite vowing to step down. He refuses to recognize a recent election in which voters chose Katie Birdsong as chief.

Birdsong says her rival is acting without authority. Spicer reportedly tried to take over the tribe's casino yesterday but tensions died down by the end of the day.

Birdsong and the other winners of a June 7 election are waiting for the BIA to recognize them as the rightful leadership.
