Republicans back Sen. Coburn and his 35 holds
Senate Republicans sided with Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Oklahoma) on Monday and refused to allow consideration of 35 bills he is holding up.

Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nevada) bundled the 35 bills into S.3297 in hopes of clearing Coburn's holds. But most Republicans voted against consideration of the package.

Most of the 35 bills are non-controversial and have already passed the House. Coburn insists he is fighting government waste.

The bills Coburn is holding up include the Mentally Ill Offender Treatment and Crime Reduction Reauthorization and Improvement Act, which provides grants to tribes.
