Cherokee council overrides veto on districting
The Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma will adopt a new districting plan over the objections of Chief Chad Smith.

The plan creates 15 districts, each with one representative. The tribe currently has nine districts.

The plan was approved by the tribal council but Smith vetoed it last month, citing concerns about the way it was developed and whether it would accurately represent the Cherokee population. The council overrode Smith on Monday night.
