BIA seeks to resolve Apache Tribe leadership dispute
The Bureau of Indian Affairs is trying to resolve a leadership dispute within the Apache Tribe of Oklahoma.

Chairman Alonzo Chalepah and Vice Chair Mary Rivera forcibly took control of tribal headquarters on Tuesday. They said they were acting to protect the tribe from a rival faction.

Opponents say Chalepah and Rivera are no longer leaders of the tribe. They voted on Saturday to recall the two officials.

Chalepah and Rivera released a BIA letter dated August 13 that said they were the legitimate leaders of the tribe.
