First Nation reports second death in two weeks
Two children from the Shamattawa First Nation in remote Manitoba have died in the last two weeks, CBC News reports.

A five-year-old boy drowned in a lake on Monday. He was living in a foster home, as was Rephanniah Redhead, 14, who committed suicide on September 25.

Chief Jeffrey Napaokesik said the deaths have shocked the reserve. Both children were in the care of a child and family services agency that serves several Native communities.

Four children tried at Shamattawa tried to commit suicide in one-week period earlier this year, a Winnipeg Free Press columnist said in May.
