Shakopee woman finds success with bison ranch

Kathy Crooks, a member of the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community> of Minnesota, is finding success on Heavenly Ranch.

Crooks and her husband are producing bison on the 75-acre ranch. Crooks says year-to-year sales of meat up are 17 percent.

""People like that it's natural, raised on pasture, tasty and low in fat," Crooks, the niece of chairman Stanley Crooks, told The Minneapolis Star Tribune.

The ranch started off with a handful of bison and now has a herd of 58. Minnesota is ranked number two among states that produce buffalo.
