Joint trial sought for Aquash murder defendants
The U.S. Attorney's Office in South Dakota wants a joint trial for the two men accused of murdering American Indian Movement activist Anna Mae Pictou Aquash.

John Graham was set to go trial on Monday but a federal judge dismissed the indictment because his status as an "Indian" wasn't established. New charges were filed and prosecutors are linking his case to Richard Marshall, a member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe of South Dakota.

Marshall is supposed to go to trial on December 9. Prosecutors say Graham should be tired at the same time.

Graham and Marshall are accused of murdering Aquash on the Pine Ridge Reservation in December 1975. Arlo Looking Cloud, also Oglala Sioux, was found guilty for his role in the crime and is serving a life sentence in federal prison.
