City rejects powwow permit out of fear of crime
The Sounds of Thunder powwow has been postponed because the city of Willow Park, Texas, won't grant a permit to organizers.

Kim Taylor, who is Shawnee, planned to hold the powwow at an old race track this weekend. But she was told that the city's police and fire departments wouldn't be able to deal with the event.

According to city officials, powwows attract crime. They claim police in Albuquerque, New Mexico, notice a rise in alcohol and property crimes during the Gathering of Nations -- the largest powwow in the world.

But WFAA-TA talked to Albuquerque police and found only seven incidents linked to the powwow. Taylor said she plans to find another location for her event.
