Havasupai Tribe on road to economic recovery
The Havasupai Tribe of Arizona will rebuild its economy thanks to a $1 million grant from the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians of California.

A flood in mid-August destroyed the tribe's main source of income: tourism. The tribe was forced to close Supai village, a popular spot for visitors to the Grand Canyon.

Supai won't reopen until spring 2009 but the $1 million donation could help speed things along. "We feel very good about helping our brothers and sisters," San Manuel Chairman James Ramos said, the Associated Press reported. "We believe this needs to happen. Who knows when we might be on the other side of the fence?"
