First Peoples Fund recognizes community spirit
Four Native artists have received the Jennifer Easton Community Spirit Award from the First Peoples Fund of South Dakota.

The award recognizes artists who are committed to maintaining their community's cultural values. It comes with a $5,000 grant.

This year's honorees are: Mary Louise Defender Wilson, a storyteller from the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe; Theresa Kenkiokoktha Fox, a singer-songwriter from the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe; Bud Lane III, a basket maker from the Confederate Tribes of Siletz Indians; and Theresa Secord, a basket maker from the Penobscot Nation.
