Navajo boxer wins silver at world tournament

Mioshia “Yosh” Wagoner, a member of the Navajo Nation, won the silver medal at the Women’s World Boxing Championships in China.

Wagoner wasn't sure she was on the same level as the other boxers. But after winning her first fight on November 26, she knew she was in the right place.

“I think that was the most important fight for me,” Wagoner told The Lawrence Journal-World. “That was like, ‘Do I deserve to be here? Am I good enough to fight in the world championships?’”

Wagoner, a graduate and employee of Haskell Indian Nations University in Kansas, made it all the way to the semifinals at the tournament. She lost the championship fight to Jie Li Tang of China but left with the silver medal.
