North Dakota sets deadline for tribal gas tax refund
Members of two North Dakota tribes who bought gasoline on their reservations have until June 30 to apply for a state refund.

The state courts invalidated the tax in a lawsuit brought by members of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians and the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation. Those tribal members are now able to apply for refunds for the year 2007.

Turtle Mountain members can seek refunds of 23 cents per gallon for purchases made the entire year. Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara members can only seek refunds of 23 cents per gallon up until September 30, 2007, because the tribe now charges its own tax.

The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and the Spirit Lake Nation also impose their own taxes so their members aren't eligible for a state refund.
