Manitoba Metis Federation wins landmark hunting case
The Manitoba Metis Federation celebrated victory in a landmark hunting rights case.

Will Goodon, a Metis man, was charged for shooting a duck without a provincial license. He argued that his federation harvester card authorized his right to hunt.

Provincial court Judge John Coombs agreed and said the Metis community proved it was entitled to hunting rights in the Turtle Mountain area. The decision is significant because Manitoba has refused to treat the Metis in a status similar to status Indians.
