The Senate passed an omnibus public lands bill that includes a water rights settlement for the Navajo Nation.
The tribe will receive 600,000 acre-feet of water per year from the San Juan River in New Mexico. The deal authorizes an $870 million major pipeline that will serve communities on and off the reservation.
The settlement is part of S.22, which also includes provisions to authorize a controversial road for an Alaska Native village.
