Seneca Nation in court over tobacco shipments
The Seneca Nation and two tribal retailers are in court today over a New York state law that seeks to impose tobacco taxes on reservations.

The tribe previously vowed to raise toll fees on the New York Thruway and prepare for the "worst" as it challenges the new law. But after Gov. David Paterson (D) said the state wouldn't halt tobacco shipments, Seneca President Barry Snyder Sr. said the plans are being reconsidered.

Paterson said the state wouldn't take action even if today's court case goes against the tribal retailers. He wants to meet with the tribe and negotiate a potential agreement.
