Jodi Rave: Rep. Rehberg joins House Native Caucus
"Montana’s Congressman, Denny Rehberg, has joined the House Native American Caucus to help educate Congress on the issues affecting Native Americans in Montana and throughout the nation.

“As Montana’s only Congressman, I represent seven reservations and eight American Indian Tribes,” said Rehberg, a member of the powerful House Appropriations Committee. “Congress needs to recognize that tribal nations face many unique challenges, and what works in Washington doesn’t always work in Indian Country.”

The Native American Caucus regularly conducts briefings and prepares background information on legislation that may impact Native American tribes. It also provides a forum for members to exchange ideas and research.

“We are pleased to see Congressman Rehberg join the House Native American Caucus,” said James Steele, Jr., Chairman of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes. “Since its inception the Caucus has played an important role in helping shape Indian policy in the Congress. Denny’s knowledge of tribal concerns will prove very useful as he tackles the tough issues in Indian Country in conjunction with his colleagues and with tribal leaders. Montana’s tribes have much to offer. We hope in these difficult economic times that the Caucus will help to advance legislation that will ensure we can contribute to the betterment of our people, and Montana as a whole, while also protecting the unique trust relationship we have with the Federal government. “"
