Shinnecock Nation expects recognition decision
The Shinnecock Nation of New York expects to receive a preliminary decision on its federal recognition by November, a tribal leader said.

The tribe was one of the first to file a petition for recognition. As part of a court case, the Bureau of Indian Affairs says it will finally give an answer to the tribe.

The final determination is expected by May or July of 2010, tribal trustee Lance Gumbs said.
