Editorial: Prairie Island Tribe loses two respected elders
"Curtis Campbell could talk and talk about the Prairie Island Mdewakanton.

He loved the tribe. He revered its culture. He embraced its history.

He loved tribal members in their totality and as individuals. They were his family, and he didn't hesitate to tell them — and anyone who asked — about their past and present on Prairie Island and in Red Wing. He also had great hopes for their future.

Campbell died Sunday at age 74, having served his community as both a tribal leader and a business leader.

He is the second respected elder the tribe lost in a matter of weeks: Vine Wells died March 19 at age 69.

Both men served their community. The two helped build Treasure Island Casino at different key points."
