Navajo veteran presented with replacement medals
Tom Charley, a member of the Navajo Nation, was presented with replacement medals for his service during World War II.

Charley, 86, earned the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, an American Champion Medal, a World War II Victory Medal and a Combat Infantry Man First Award for his service in Europe. But the medals were lost after his home on the reservation was burglarized.

“These medals should never have been taken from him,” said Rep. Ben Ray Luján (D-New Mexico), The Gallup Independent reported. "We have a hero in our midst."

Lujan presented the medals to Charley at a ceremony in Gallup, New Mexico.
