Glenn Marshall, the former chairman of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe will be sentenced this Thursday in federal court in Boston, Massachusetts.

Marshall pleaded guilty to violating campaign finance laws, embezzling funds, filing false tax returns and fraudulently receiving Social Security benefits. The crimes occurred when he was leading the tribe through its successful federal recognition effort.

According to The Cape Cod Times, Marshall faces up to 36 years in jail and a $1.25 million fine. But due to his cooperation with federal prosecutors, he will probably serve a lower sentence.

Marshall resigned in fall 2007 after the Times reported about his criminal record and fabrications about his military career.
