The Northern Ute Tribe of
Utah says it fired former chief judge Larry Kee Yazzie for having a criminal record and lying about his standing in the state bar.
The tribe plans to fight a wrongful termination lawsuit that Yazzie filed in tribal court. "Mr. Yazzie had numerous convictions for DUI and other related offenses," Vice Chairwoman Irene C. Cuch said in a press release quoted by The Salt Lake City Deseret News. "In addition, he had misinformed the Business Committee that he was a fully licensed member in good standing of the state bar, when in fact this was not the case."
The paper, however, said Yazzie is listed as "active" in the state bar.
