New Mexico governor hosts tribes for first summit
New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson (D) met with tribal leaders for the first summit under the new State Tribal Collaboration Act.

Richardson and Indian Affairs Secretary Alvin Warren called the summit, which was held at Acoma Pueblo, a success. They discussed infrastructure, economic development, education, health care and other issues with tribal leaders.

"This summit brings us face to face, leader to leader and sovereign government to government to promote sustainable state-tribal collaboration and partnership," Acoma Pueblo Gov. Chandler Sanchez told the Associated Press.

New Mexico is home to 19 Pueblos, two Apache tribes and the Navajo Nation.
