Renewable energy a focus at Sovereignty Symposium
Renewable energy was a topic of discussion at the 22nd annual Sovereignty Symposium this week.

Speakers urged Oklahoma tribes to join the state's growing wind energy industry. "Don’t be afraid to think small projects," said attorney Ken Bellmard, a member of the Kaw Nation, The Oklahoman reported.

Ballard said tribes should install wind turbines to power their facilities. He said it will help them save money.

Jaime McAlpine, a member of the Osage Nation who is president of Chermac Energy Corp., said tribes can create jobs by becoming a part of the industry.
