Coquille Tribe celebrates federal restoration
The Coquille Tribe of Oregon is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its restoration to federal recognition this weekend.

The tribe was terminated by an act of Congress in 1954. After decades of lobbying, the tribe won recognition in 1989.

The next year, the tribe celebrated in Bandon, where the celebration will return after 13 years. "We wanted to go back to Bandon for this one because that’s where we started," Chairman Ed Metcalf told The Bandon Western World. "We’re excited about being there."

Events take place Saturday and Sunday.
