Court dismisses Yankton Sioux hog farm lawsuit
The 8th Circuit Court of Appeals on July 10 dismissed a lawsuit that sought to stop a hog farm near the Yankton Sioux Reservation in South Dakota.

The Yankton Sioux Tribe Concerned Head Start Parents sued Long View Farms of Iowa, alleging violations of tribal and federal law. A federal judge, however, ruled that the farm site is not under tribal jurisdiction.

The only means of getting to the farm is through a road maintained by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The judge said the road was never transferred to federal ownership.

The hog farm went into operation last fall.
