'Equal rights' group rejects label of anti-Indian
A group that opposes federal Indian policy says it is not anti-Indian.

The Citizens Equal Rights Alliance has fought the federal government and tribes on land-into-trust, treaty rights, fishing rights, sovereignty, Indian child welfare and other issues. "We are not anti-Indian," board member Scott Seaborne told WLUK-TV. "What we are is we're a group of people that oppose current federal Indian policy."

Tribal leaders don't buy that explanation. "I'd say they should get out of the 1950s and into the 2000s," said Oneida Nation Chairman Rick Hill.

Hill said tribes in Wisconsin should work together to counter misinformation about their sovereign rights.
