Time running out to keep 'Fighting Sioux' at UND
In less than a month, the "Fighting Sioux" nickname and logo of the University of North Dakota could be history.

The North Dakota Board of Higher Education set an October 1 deadline for the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and the Spirit Lake Dakotah Nation to express their views on the issue. Time is running out for the tribes to endorse the name and logo.

But that isn't stopping Archie Fool Bear from trying to keep the nick alive. He hopes to convince Standing Rock Sioux leaders to introduce a resolution to support the name and logo.

In April, Spirit Lake tribal members voted in favor of keeping the nickname and logo. But tribal leaders haven't taken action to reflect the referendum.
