City supports Shakopee Tribe's land-into-trust
The city council in Prior Lake, Minnesota, voted to support the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community's land-into-trust application.

The tribe wants 78 acres placed in trust. Some of the land will be used for a new tribal government center and a health clinic.

Commissioners in Scott County oppose the application. Mayor Jack Haugen said the tribe's contributions to the area outweigh the potential loss of property tax revenues.

"Is this truly a tax issue, or is it something else?” Haugen said at a council meeting, The Prior Lake American reported.
