Sac and Fox leader placed on voluntary leave
A leader of the Sac and Fox Nation of Oklahoma has accepted a voluntary leave of absence amid questions about her tribal membership.

Second Chief Cheryl McClellan is reportedly enrolled in the Seneca-Cayuga Tribe and the Sac and Fox Nation. The Sac and Fox constitution forbids dual enrollment.

“If I was in that situation, I’d want to move quickly to clear my name so we can get on with business,” Chief George Thurman told The Shawnee News-Star. “We need to get this done quickly and move on.”

McClellan, who was elected in August 2007, has reportedly submitted a letter to the Seneca-Cayuga Tribe to relinquish her membership.
