Hopland Band leaders protest ouster from council
Two members of the Hopland Band of Pomo Indians of California say they were wrongly removed from the tribal council.

Beverly Rodriguez and Wanda D. Balderama accused election chair Trina Vega of engaging in political activities. Vega is the mother of Chairman Roman Carillo Jr.

After raising their complaint, Rodriguez and Balderama said other tribal leaders scheduled an election November 1 even though elections are typically held in January. The two women lost their seats and were told to cover the costs of the vote, they said.

The women plan to bring up the issue at a tribal meeting on Saturday.
