Crow Creek leader continues protest over land sale

Brandon Sazue, the chairman of the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe of South Dakota, has spent 10 days in a trailer without heat as he protests an Internal Revenue Service sale of tribal land.

Sazue is using propane tanks to stay warm. "I remember what I was elected for," Sazue told The Sioux Falls Argus Leader. "I was elected to serve the people, by the people. I will not sit in a warm house ... while this is going on."

The IRS auctioned 7,100 acres of land owned by the tribe to pay $3.1 million in back employment taxes. The land won't be transferred until a lawsuit that the tribe filed gets resolved -- the Bureau of Indian Affairs is reportedly looking into the issue as well.
