A police chief in Montana has been charged in connection with an illegal hunt on the Fort Peck Reservation.
Poplar Police Chief Chad Hilde faces eight felony counts for the illegal killing of four moose. He allegedly took his 14-year-old son to the reservation last July and allowed his son to shoot the animals.
Bruce Bauer, a game warden for the Fort Peck Tribes, informed a state game warden about the incident. When they went to the Poplar police department to investigate, they were asked "if they wanted moose burger" and they found a group of officers eating the moose.
HIlde is non-Indian. He said his son was born on the Turtle Mountain Chippewa Reservation in North Dakota and said he thought he son was able to hunt at Fort Peck.
