Prairie Island woman preserves oral history
Whitney White, a member of the Prairie Island Indian Community of Minnesota, is making sure her tribal traditions are preserved for future generations.

White, 22, interviewed four elders for her senior project at St. Olaf College. She hopes the "Prairie Island Dakota Oral History" will keep tribal stories and traditions alive.

"If no one's stepping up and doing this, then it's my responsibility to myself, my history and my daughter," White told The Republican Eagle. "I'm helping to preserve our identity as a people."

White received her degree from St. Olaf in May.
