Interior Secretary Ken Salazar reflected on his one-year anniversary as head of the Interior Department.

Salazar, a former U.S. Senator from Colorado, said he is changing the way the department deals with the public and Indian Country. "We have a new relationship with Native American communities all across this nation," he said in The Washington Post video

Since joining the Obama administration on January 21, 2009, Salazar has kept Indian issues high on his agenda. He met with tribal leaders early in the year, moderated the historic White House Tribal Nations Conference in November, started the process to develop a new tribal consultation policy for the department and helped negotiate the Cobell trust fund settlement that was announced in December.

Salazar will be rolling out the department next budget in February.
