Investigation into vandalism of Nez Perce pictographs
Tribal, local and federal authorities are investigating the vandalism of pictographs on the Nez Perce Reservation in Idaho.

Based on the initials and markings left on the rocks, authorities believe they know who might be responsible for the crime. Prosecution is likely to be handled by the U.S. Attorney's Office in Idaho.

"It is very disappointing to the tribe," Chairman Sam Penney told KLEW-TV. "These areas are very important to the tribe and also to this country and the state of Idaho as far as the history and culture of this area."

The pictographs are believed to be about 2,500 years old.
