Ronald Markishtum, Makah elder, found dead after crash
Ronald P. Markishtum Sr., an elder of the Makah Nation of Washington, was found dead on Thursday after a one-vehicle accident. He was 71.

Markishtum was alone in the car. State police are investigating.

"He was someone that took care of his family," Chairman Michael Lawrence told The Peninsula Daily News. "And now we are going to miss him."

Markishtum was active in the tribe's elder program and supported the tribe's participation in the annual Canoe Journey.
