Coquille Tribe's proposal to join tourism board questioned
The Coquille Tribe wants to join the Coos Bay-North Bend Visitor & Convention Bureau in Oregon but not everyone embraces the idea.

The tribe wants to add two representatives to the five-member board. But some local leaders and residents said the tribe can't be trusted, citing a recent dispute over a municipal services agreement.

“If you enter into a contract with them, it means nothing,” North Bend council member Larry Garboden said at a public meeting, The Coos Bay World reported. “Been there, done that.”

“We are not going to accomplish anything in this community unless we start working together,” Coquille Vice Chairman Tom Younker said in response, the paper reported “If you want to remain my friend, don’t tell me my word’s no good.”

The tribe settled the dispute and agreed to a new contract for municipal services. Some of the money went to the convention bureau.
