Bill seeks to expedite leasing process for tribal development
The Helping Expedite and Advance Responsible Tribal Homeownership (HEARTH) Act seeks to help tribes speed up housing and commercial development on their reservations.

The bill would allow tribes to develop land leasing regulations. Once approved by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, tribes would not need to seek the agency's review for every single lease.

The House Natural Resources Committee held a hearing on the bill last October. A markup hasn't been held.

The Senate version of the bill was introduced last month. The Senate Indian Affairs Committee has not held a hearing.
