Students at Haskell Indian Nations
University in Kansas are upset about work in the Haskell/Baker Wetlands.
The northern part of the wetlands are on the Haskell campus. The southern part is on Baker University, under Douglas County jurisdiction.
County workers removed a beaver dam on the Baker portion of the wetlands, which led to a significant drop of water in the Haskell portion. Students took pictures of a large number of wildlife that died as a result of the work.
“I haven’t seen the Haskell students riled up as much as they are right now in a long time,” Mike Caron, the executive director of Save the Wakarusa Wetlands, told The Lawrence Journal-World.
