Osage Nation ousts incumbent chief and prepares for runoff
Voters of the Osage Nation of Oklahoma ousted incumbent chief Jim Gray on Monday.

Gray came in third out of a field of five candidates. That means he will step down after two terms as chief, during which he oversaw the rapid expansion of the tribe's gaming enterprise, saw a string a positive rulings in a major trust mismanagement case and lost a significant lawsuit over the status of the tribe's reservation.

John Red Eagle and Tim Tall Chief were the top vote getters for the chief's position. But since neither received 50 percent plus one of the vote, they will face each other in a runoff on July 19.

Scott BigHorse and Amanda Proctor received the most votes for assistant chief. Again, neither received 50 percent plus one of the vote so they will head to the runoff.

Results of the election were posted on Voting Osage, a non-profit, non-partisan grassroots site operated by Ryan Red Corn, a tribal member
