House Resources Committee markup agenda includes Indian bills
Update: The markup will now take place on Thursday.

The House Natural Resources Committee will hold a markup session on Thursday, July 22.

Two Indian bills are on the agenda for the markup, which takes place at 10am in Room 1324 of the Longworth House Office Building.

H.R.2523, the Helping Expedite and Advance Responsible Tribal Homeownership (HEARTH) Act, allows tribes to develop land leasing regulations. Once the regulations are approved by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, tribes would not need to seek the agency's review for every single lease.

The bill was introduced on May 20, 2009. The committee held a hearing on the bill on October 21, 2009.

H.R.4347 , the Department of the Interior Tribal Self-Governance Act of 2009, expands the self-governance program at the Interior Department. The Obama administration does not support the bill in its current form.

The bill was introduced on December 16, 2009. The committee held a hearing on the bill on June 9, 2010.
