California tribes first to file a new independent expenditure group
An independent expenditure group backed by California tribes was the first to file papers with the Federal Election Commission.

Californians for Fiscally Responsible Leadership filed within 24 hours of the FEC's new rules. Essentially, independent expenditure groups can raise and spend as much money as they want.

So far, the Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians and the Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians each donated about $25,000 to the new group. Some of that money has already been spent on races in California.
