The Cow Creek Band of the Umpqua
Tribe of Indians of Oregon has a new chairman.
Dan Courtney, 56, was chosen by the tribe's board of directors. He replaces Sue Shaffer, who resigned in May after serving as chairwoman since 1983.
“I tend to work more behind the scenes. I see my role as leading the board meetings,” Courtney told The Roseburg News Review.
The tribe gained federal recognition in 1982.
