White Mountain Apache Tribe opposes telescopes at sacred site
The White Mountain Apache Tribe of Arizona continues to oppose the presence of the Mount Graham International Observatory at a sacred site.

Mount Graham is known as Dzil Nchaa Si An in the Apache language. It was part of the San Carlos Apache Reservation but was later removed by an executive order.

The land is now managed by the U.S. Forest Service. The agency is considering a 20-year renewal of the permit for the observatory but the tribe wants the government to agree to a termination date for the project.
