Lac Vieux Desert Band banishes woman for being a 'disruption'
The Lac Vieux Desert Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians of Michigan banished an elderly woman from the reservation for a year.

Jo Ann Douyette inflicted "emotional distress to several tribal council members, and tribal elders" at a recent meeting and "caused a disruption in the operation of the tribal government and tribal services," according to her banishment papers, WLUC-TV reported.

"Where am I supposed to go and live?” Douyette told WLUC in response. “Where am I supposed to be? There are homeless people here, living here on this reservation. They want to make me, an elder homeless?"

Douyette said she is being punished for criticizing tribal leaders.
