Editorial: Navajo Nation leaders in desperate need of credibility
"The two candidates squaring off for a seat on the Navajo Tribal Council representing six small chapters in San Juan County both have experience and ideas, and both have respectable goals.

LoRenzo Bates, 58, of Upper Fruitland, is seeking his third term on the Nation's council, while George Arthur, 64, of San Juan, seeks his sixth. Both cannot be re-elected because this will be the first election since the top Navajo governing body was reduced from 88 delegates to 24.

The chapters this position will represent include Hogback, Upper Fruitland, Nenahnezad, San Juan, Burnham and Newcomb.

The Daily Times endorses LoRenzo Bates for the office, and at the same time issues him a challenge to help restore credibility to senior Navajo leadership in desperate need of it."
